Getting started
Complete the focused onboarding questions. The Emergency Card is created first; you can add the wider plan section by section.
Create or edit an Emergency Card
Open Home and choose the Emergency Card action. Add only information you want available in Emergency Mode, then save and review the updated date.
Use information offline
The locally saved Emergency Card, Emergency Mode and core plan do not require internet. Sign-in, invitations, synchronization and purchase checks do.
Trusted-person invitations
Open People, choose a person and review role and section permissions. Invitations require sign-in, Family Ready Plus and internet. Recipients must use the invited email identity.
Family collaboration
Pull to refresh or return to the foreground to synchronize. Recipients see permitted sections. Contributors may propose section changes for review; access is not a permanent realtime connection.
Notifications and reminders
Enable local notifications when prompted by a reminder feature. Check iOS Settings if reminders do not appear. Remote household push notifications are not implemented in this release.
Camera and QR scanning
Allow camera access only when you choose a supported QR scan. If access was denied, open iOS Settings > Family Ready > Camera. You can enter recovery information manually where offered.
Choose a contact
Apple’s system contact picker shares only the person you select with Family Ready. You can cancel the picker and enter details manually. The full address book is not uploaded.
Create an encrypted backup
Open Settings > Encrypted Backup File. Choose profiles and sections, save the encrypted file, then save or print the separate Recovery Card. Store them separately.
Restore a backup
Choose the .familyready file, validate it, enter the recovery code and review the preview. Restore as a new profile or explicitly confirm replacement. A wrong code does not reveal plan content.
PDF export
Review included sections and sensitive-content labels before creating a dated snapshot. The free Emergency Snapshot is available without Plus; additional Share Packs require Plus.
Printing
From a PDF preview, use Print or the system Share Sheet. Printer availability, paper size and network access are controlled by iOS and the printer.
Restore Purchases
Open Settings > Restore Purchases while using the Apple Account that made the purchase. If access does not update, confirm connectivity and Apple subscription status, then try again.
Account deletion and leaving a household
Delete account and cloud data from Settings if signed in. Deleting device information is separate. Other owners keep their households; exports and Apple purchase records are not erased.
Manage or cancel a subscription
In Family Ready, open Settings and choose Manage subscription. You can also open iOS Settings, select your Apple Account, choose Subscriptions, then Family Ready. Deleting the app or your Family Ready account does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Lost access or common errors
- Cannot sign in: check internet access, confirm the Apple Account flow completes and try again. Do not repeatedly create invitations while a request is pending.
- Invitation does not open: ask the owner for the current invitation, confirm it has not expired or been cancelled, and sign in with the invited email identity.
- Information looks old: pull to refresh, return the app to the foreground and confirm the owner saved the latest version.
- Backup will not open: confirm it is a Family Ready backup, use the separate matching recovery code and avoid modifying the file.
- No call action: verify the phone number and remember that Wi-Fi-only iPads may not support direct telephone calls.
- Low storage or export failure: free device space, choose another Files location and retry without deleting the existing plan.
